Hoping to see icebergs like this (just not up too close!) |
It's been awhile since the Supsics sailed the seas, and we are anxious to get back on the water. This cruise is especially appealing because we get to visit Greenland and lots of other out-of-the-way places in Northern Europe.
Canals of Amsterdam |
Amsterdam, Netherlands (3 nights) -- staying right on the canal in a houseboat!
Board Holland America's MS Rotterdam -- the very first ship we ever cruised on.
Cruise itinerary:
Torshaven, Faroe Islands -- circle tour of the island
Eskifjordur, Iceland -- learn about the impact of WWII on this isolated part of the country
Akureyri, Iceland -- take a soak in hot springs of the Myvatn Nature Baths
Isafjordur, Iceland -- explore another little-visited part of Iceland
Cruise Prince Christian Sound (off southeastern tip of Greenland) -- searching for icebergs
Qaqortoq, Greenland -- explore on our own
Paamiut (Frederikshab), Greenland -- explore the town on our own
Nanortalik, Greenland -- take an iceberg tour and visit the Nanortalik Open Air Museum
Note: These ports in Greenland are so remote, there are often no tours at all.
Reykjavik, Iceland (overnight) -- re-visit this wonderful city and check out some volcanoes
Lerwick, Shetland -- tour the island including its prehistoric sights (Anne is especially thrilled with this port because one of her favorite BBC shows is "Shetland," a series that is filmed on Shetland.)
Inverness, Scotland -- tour Cawdor and Urquhart Castles and visit Culloden Battlefield
Edinburgh, Scotland -- explore this favorite city on our own
Return to Amsterdam and fly home.
Can't wait to share this adventure with you. It might be a bit chilly this far north, so pack a sweater or two and be sure to keep an eye out for icebergs!
